About Us

Renowned celebrity barber, Larry E. Roberts, Jr., began cutting hair at the age of 13 in his parents’ basement. His client base grew so rapidly that he enlisted his friend to help with appointments, with his mother and sister, Tramaine, managing his bookings. By the time he was 18, Larry had completed barber college and opened the first Larry’s Barber Shop in Matteson, Illinois, where he quickly gained recognition for his professional skills and creativity. Investing back into the business, Larry prioritized a professional environment for clients and barbers.

In a commitment to serving under-resourced areas, Larry relocated his barber shop to Chicago’s south side, bringing quality services to the community. His barbershops flourished, leading him to expand and seek new opportunities.

In 2004, Larry opened his first barber college in Chicago, IL, with a mission to provide career development, client servicing, and mentorship. He went on to establish two more barber colleges and, in 2010, made history by opening the first barber college inside Cook County Department of Corrections—the first of its kind. With no monetary compensation for the program, Larry founded Data Foundation Inc., a non-profit that provides resources and finances for the jail program and his other colleges.

To further serve his clients' needs, Larry launched his Maximus Man product line for barbers and Maximus Essentials for broader use. He also created an instructional DVD titled “Cutting Hair with Larry” and published a biography, "Suicide Is Not the Answer" in 2015, in which he details overcoming childhood abuse, relationship challenges, and struggles with faith.

In addition to his accomplishments as a celebrity barber, Larry is a sought-after musician, recognized for his dynamic style as a professional percussionist and keyboardist. He has performed with prominent figures in the music industry, including Ricky Dillard & New Generation, Kirk Franklin, Stephanie Mills, and many others.
